One last day in Korea! The National Museum of Korea is unreal and we didn’t even go IN! #nexttime And then one more night of fried chicken and beer with cousins! Yo, the Korean/fried chicken thing is REAL and it is MAD LEGIT. 😂
Today, by the absolute grace of God, I ended up not just close to where my mom grew up but to the EXACT PLOT OF LAND my mom’s childhood home once stood. It was amazing enough to journey out to the countryside and thrilling that FaceTime worked at all so that my mom could talk us through what we were seeing (ish). We were so happy just wandering around, seeing real rice paddies and just knowing we were close but my mom wanted us to get accurately closer. We ended up handing a complete stranger our iPhone and, while standing in her garden, a women talked with my mom for a while, motioned for us to follow her, DROVE US back to an old lady, who told us to go up a tiny street we never would’ve turned onto. A man was outside loading his truck with mushrooms, super stoic but listening to my mom on FaceTime as well as this other neighbor lady and then HE finally takes the phone and talks with my mom for a while! Here’s the mic drop: his👏house👏stood👏exactly👏where👏my👏mom’s👏childhood👏house👏once👏stood. He remembered his dad tearing down the traditional mud house when he was a kid - he even told my mom that there are some folks in the area with her family name still! The man eventually gave me the phone back, silently gave both Jake and I a plum from the tree, and then drove away with his little truck with its bed full of mushrooms. We were all simply astonished at how it and transpired. I’m too sleepy to write more now but wow, it matters to see where your parents grew up. Those places cultivated the people they became and subsequently who YOU became. The world is extraordinary and so expanse and so tiny and I love it all.
Checked out a place featured in a Netflix docu on street food! This place and noodle-making lady were mad legit 🔥👏
A wonderful day with cousins in Seoul! Food, laughter, palaces, shopping...it was amazing to be shown around after traveling just us for a couple of weeks! So much love to @ohrudxor and @yu.jin.1122 😁💛🥰 And my cousin’s baby was born two months early like meeee! Little premie connection 👯♀️💛
More pics from today bc yo, Jeju is LIT 🔥😂 The only waterfall to feed into the ocean in Asia, artwork EVERYWHERE, and (after *maybe* sneaking down to a cove after hours...) a huge orange moon rising over the China Sea - which photos never do justice of but just to document the experience. 🙏
Salmonella can’t keep ME down!!! ***J👏K👏***...yes, yes it can. For five days, in fact! 🤓☠️#illneverforgetbusan But I’m back, mutha truckas!!! And I got to leave the hotel in Jeju Island and see a couple of the many glorious sights here 😍 But PSA...don’t eat undercooked eggs. Ever. Step away from the brownie batter - ITS NOT WORTH IT KIDZ.
Now back to my plain rice and soup 😂🤢🥴
#tbt to finding your friend’s dad’s beautiful artwork featured in bustling Kyoto!! @minamiyusui thanks for guiding us to it! 😁💛😍🇯🇵🥰
